Why Your Website Is Preventing You from Growing and How to Fix It

A website is essentially today’s business card for companies. Your site provides information about your company, and can lead a prospective customer to contact you to work together. However, web design can also prevent your company from growing. Here are 4 reasons your website might not be working, and how you can fix them.

1. Website is outdated

Design is a crucial part of a website, and design is always changing. Websites from 10 years ago look funny to us now, but back then they were probably really cool. It’s important to redesign your website from time to time so it stays current. If your website looks like it was built 10 years ago, it may be unappealing to users; they may even conclude that the information is no longer relevant.

In addition to updating your website’s design it’s also important to maintain the website, by regularly updating plugins and posts, and finding ways to improve the site’s speed and overall performance.

2. Information is unclear

If your site hasn’t been updated in a while, there is a chance that your copy hasn’t been updated either. It’s important to keep your information clear and consistent throughout every facet of your business. For example, if your business has increased the price of products, but the site doesn’t reflect that, you inevitably get complaints from customers asking why the information is wrong and telling you that they have been misled. If your website doesn’t share much information about your company or causes visitors to be confused on what your business is about, they may leave your site and visit a competitor instead.

Ensure that the information on your website is being updated regularly. Look through the copy on your site and ask yourself, Is this relevant? Does this make sense? Have we changed something within our company that may be important to add to our website?

3. Poor User Experience

User experience is another important aspect of web design. It’s essential that users  be able to navigate efficiently throughout your site. You don’t want people to get frustrated when they visit your website; such an experience demonstrates that the company didn’t really consider their users.

It may be difficult to figure out if users are having trouble on your site, and you may not even be aware of their issues. However, you can analyze user behaviours using platforms like Google Analytics, HotJar and SEMrush. These tools allow you to see how users flow throughout your site. You will be able to see things like which pages are popular, where people are getting stuck, and how many people exit a page quickly. With this information,  you can determine the best ways to improve user’ experience.

4. SEO hasn’t been updated

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a great way to gain exposure for your website. Using strong SEO can help you rank high on Google,  so that your website can appear high on the search results. SEO has many layers. It’s not easy to rank #1 on Google, but optimizing your website for SEO can definitely help. Taking time to implement proper meta descriptions and SEO titles can boost your ranking. However, it’s also important  to keep in mind that best practice is always changing when it comes to SEO. Researching keywords, looking into trends, and posting relevant blogs are a great way to keep up.
